π Why the loop stays open
Your brain treats an unexplained ending like an unsolved problem, and unsolved problems get infinite CPU. That's why you replay it at 2am β not because you miss them, necessarily, but because your mind refuses to file something labeled "unresolved." The trick isn't to solve it. It's to re-label the file.
βοΈ The letter you never send
Write everything. The rage draft, the grief draft, the "actually here's what you lost" draft. Say every unsaid thing until the well is empty. Then β this part matters β write their imagined reply. Not the fantasy apology. The honest one, based on who they actually showed themselves to be. Reading that is usually the moment the spell breaks: you realize you've been waiting for words they were never capable of saying.
π Declare the ending
Closure is a decision with a ritual attached. Pick a small, physical act of ending β burn the letter, return the hoodie, delete the thread, take the drive with the playlist and then retire the playlist. Your nervous system believes actions more than intentions. Give it a scene it can point to and say: that's where it ended.
