Questions people ask

Why am I so exhausted after being around people?

Often because being around people is work for you in a way it is not for everyone. Continuously reading the room β€” who is off, what might go wrong, what would smooth it β€” is real labour, and it does not show up on a calendar, which is why the tiredness never seems to match the day.

Is this the same as being an empath?

We would describe the mechanism rather than hand out a label. What is happening is closer to vigilance than to a gift: an early-warning system, built when reading somebody else's mood accurately actually mattered, that has never been switched off since.

How long does this quiz take?

Seven questions, about two minutes. Free, no account, and the result appears the moment you finish.

What are the four results?

The Forecaster, the Fixer, the Absorber, and Off-Duty β€” four relationships to other people's weather, from predicting it days out, to fixing it in the moment, to carrying it home, to genuinely not being on shift.

How do I stop managing everyone's emotions?

Not by caring less, which never works and is not the goal. Usually by practising very small amounts of tolerated discomfort β€” letting a silence stay three seconds long, letting someone be briefly annoyed β€” so the body collects evidence that an unmanaged room does not actually go wrong.
